What Meta Advantage+ is and why it rewrote the rules
Meta Advantage+ is the suite of AI features in Meta Ads that automates targeting, placement and creative optimisation. Rolled out gradually since 2022, by 2026 it is the de facto standard for e-commerce campaigns on Meta, with average ROAS results 12-28% better than standard campaigns under the right conditions.
The Advantage+ suite includes: Advantage+ Shopping campaigns (ASC): e-commerce acquisition campaigns run entirely by AI; Advantage+ Audience: AI targeting in regular campaigns; Advantage+ Creative: automatic creative optimisation; Advantage+ Placements: automatic distribution across all Meta placements.
Advantage+ Shopping campaigns (ASC)
ASC is Meta's equivalent of Google's Performance Max. A single campaign handles all acquisition advertising: new prospecting + remarketing, across all placements (Feed, Stories, Reels, Messenger, Audience Network).
When to use ASC
- You have an active product catalogue (Shops or a Meta catalogue)
- You have at least 30-50 purchase events a month in the pixel (otherwise the AI doesn't have enough data)
- A budget of ≥ 100€/month (below that level, the setup cost doesn't justify the ROI)
- Objective: sales/conversions, not awareness or traffic
Critical ASC settings
- Existing customer budget cap: limits the % of budget allocated to existing customers (we recommend 20-30%)
- Audience segments: you can add audience hints (as in PMax), including a Customer List
- Creative portfolio: at least 10 varied creatives (images, carousels, videos)
- An optimised catalogue: complete product titles and descriptions, high-quality images
Advantage+ Audience
It can be switched on in traditional campaigns (not just ASC). When you turn on Advantage+ Audience, Meta automatically expands targeting beyond the audiences you have defined if the algorithm detects that it can find conversions at a better cost outside the specified segment.
If your campaign with classic targeting has a good ROAS but low volume (the audience is saturating), turn on Advantage+ Audience. If performance deteriorates in the first 7 days, restrict it again. Test with 20-30% of the budget.
Advantage+ Creative optimisation
Meta automatically tests variations of your creative: different crops for each placement, music added to videos, changes to the overlay text, brightness, contrast. The result: the same creative adapts automatically to every context.
Recommended setting: turn on Advantage+ Creative for all asset types, with one exception: if you have strict brand guidelines (logo placement, exact colours), check that the variations Meta generates don't break them.
Optimising Advantage+: what to track
Compare these metrics: ROAS (Return on Ad Spend): target ≥ 3x for standard e-commerce Cost per Purchase: must stay below the contribution margin Reach/Frequency: ASC manages these on its own, but keep an eye on saturation Common interpretation mistakes: Don’t compare ASC with a retargeting campaign (ASC also does prospecting) Nu evalua ASC în primele 7 zile (faza de learning) Compara ASC cu suma campaniilor de prospecting + retargeting anterioare Evaluate after at least 2 weeks and 50+ conversions

Advantage+ Shopping vs. a manual conversion campaign: which is better?
There is no universal answer. ASC works better for shops with a large catalogue and plenty of conversion data. A manual campaign gives you more control and is better for product launches, specific audiences or situations where you want to control the exact message for each segment.
Can I run ASC and standard campaigns at the same time?
Yes, but watch out for audience overlap. A common structure: ASC for general prospecting + a manual retargeting campaign for recent visitors who abandoned their basket. Exclude the retargeting audience from ASC to avoid competing against yourself.
Meta Pixel vs. Conversions API: which should I use?
Both, at the same time. The Pixel works client-side (in the browser). The Conversions API sends data server-side, bypassing ad blockers and iOS 14+ restrictions. Combining pixel + CAPI increases event coverage by 20-40% compared with the pixel alone, significantly improving data quality for Advantage+.
